Abstract

Acid waste-products from refining of petroleum products are de-sulphurised by mixing the waste-product at 50 degrees-100 degrees C with active MgO and then adding a limited amt. of hot water such that the water is absorbed without forming an aq. phase and the temp. of the mixture does not fall below 70 degrees C, following which the MgSO4 and other water-sol. Mg compds. are washed out several times with constant mastication, with subsequent decantation of the aq. phase.
