Abstract

Organic isocyanate containing (cyclo)aliphatically-linked isocyanate groups. Title cpds. are prepd. by reacting an organic halide, which contains at least one aliphatically linked halogen atom, with an alkali(ne earth) metal or ammonium cyanate, using I2, an iodine chloride and/or Br as catalyst. The reaction may be carried out in a solvent, especially a mixture of a solvent of low polarity and a solvent of high polarity. Pref. catalyst are I2 and/or ICl. The product is particularly an alhpa-isocyanatoarylene The production of by-products is reduced.
