Title cpds. of formula : (where R1 is lower alkoxy, amino or anilino and R2, R3, R4, R5 are same or different of H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or alkoxycarbonyl of low m.wt. or carbamyl). They are prepd. by reaction benzofurans of formula : with cpd. of formula : R6-CO-CH2COR1 (where R6 is is approx. 4C alkyl or alkoxy) in the presence of KOH or K alcolate in an alcoholic soln. Used for pesticides or pharmaceuticals.
