Abstract

Light from the lamp passes through an interference filter which admits wavelengths centred on 2537 degrees A, the most effective germicide. The light falls on a photoelectric cell whose output is amplified and used to operate a signal, either aural or optical. There is normally a protective shutter between the lamp and the photocell. The operator checks the efficiency of the lamp by removing the shutter, whereupon the signal operates provided sufficient intensity at 2537 degrees C is present.
