Abstract

1-(3'-trifluoromethylphenyl)-3-amino-4,4-dichloro-5-pyrazolone of formula: is useful as an antifungal agent, especially for the protection of seeds. It is prepd. by condensing ethyl cyanacetate with 3-trifluoromethylphenylhydrazine in the presence of sodium ethoxide and then chlorinating the resulting 1-(3'-trifluoromethylphenyl)-3-amino-5-pyrrazolone in an organic solvent, preferably chloroform. It is esp. active against Botrytis cinerea and Rhizoctonia solani.
