Abstract

The supported layer is formed from a compsn comprising a volatile solvent, insoluble binder and appropriately sized mineral charge. Specif the mineral (=0.2 mm) is incorporated in a gum or a natural or synthetic resin. The support is used for membranes in reverse osmosis applications e.g. water softening processes. The system is rugged and does not damage the intermediate layer which may be deposited directly on the support simultaneously with the semipermeable membrane.
