Abstract

Platen consists of a metal plate fixed to a metal cushion in which heating elements are embedded, the plate being of the same material as the cushion. The parts are attached so that the plate maintains great flexibility. A number of bolts keep the assembly at an adjustable distance from the rigid framework of the press, the distance being adjusted by means of nuts. Pref. metal is Al. The use of a single metal overcomes differential expansion problems. The platen is used esp. for thermal-impression, thermal fixation etc.
