Abstract
Stabilisation prevents fading and colour changes when pigments are used in plastics, paints, etc. and is carried out by treating the pigment before incorporation in the product with a U.V. absorber solution, which on drying leaves a coating of U.V absorber on the individual particles. The application of the solution is pref. carried out during mechanical working and drying e.g. while blowing hot air through. The particles may be coated in addition with a protective coating e.g. of hardening varnish, which makes the U.V. absorber insoluble in solvents used for the polymer products. An example of suitable solution for pigment treatment is a 10% soln. of chlorbenzene triazole type U.V. absorber in methylene chloride.
