Abstract

Oxiranes of styrene types are made by reacting (I) (R1 'S may be same or different and signify H, 1-6C alkyl, 4-6C cycloalkyl, alkylphenyl or phenalkyl) with alkyl-, cycloalkyl- or aralkyl-hydroperoxides (can be prim., sec. or tert. -hydroperoxide), in inert solvent immiscible with water, in the presence of catalyst comprising derivatives of Co, Cu, Fe or Mn (including chelates) and removing the stoichiometric amt. of H2O so formed.
