Abstract

Sodium aluminate solutions are desilicated by adding to them a finely divided synthetic cancrinite which makes it possible for the silicon to be precipitated from the solution as a silicate complex of sodium and aluminium. The sodium aluminate may be a digestion liquor of the Bayer process. The finely divided synthetic cancrinite may include in its crystalline structure sodium sulphate, nitrate, oxalate, phosphate or carbonate.
