Abstract

(A) Pharmaceutical compns. contng. as active ingredient a cpd. of formula (I) or a suitable salt thereof. R1 and R2 = H, Me or together form a satd. 2C bridge; when R1 and R2 are both Me, they have the meso configuration. Compns. contng. (3,5,3',5'-tetraoxo)-1,2-dipiperazinoethane, -1,2-dipiperazinopropane (d-, 1-and dl), -2,3-dipiperazinobutane (meso) and -1,2-dipeperazinocyclobutane. (B) Prepn. of (I) by heating a cpd. of formula (II) with polyphosphoric acid or phenol. (Cf. Brit.978,724) As antitumour agents against certain cancers, e.g. leukemia, and also certain non-malignant tumours. They have relatively low toxicity.
