Abstract

Laminated plates for use as permanent labels etc. are made from a ductile (metal) sheet coated with a thermoplastic matl. and shaped by embossing to a height greater than the original thickness of the coated sheet. The embossed sheet is annealed to relax any stresses induced in the laminate before the crest of the embossed areas is machined off sufficiently to partially shave and expose the crest of the embossed metal profiles. Process is used esp. to mfr. nameplates used for securing trademarks etc. to the casing of domestic equipment such as cameras etc. The annealing treatment suppresses subsequent contraction or delamination of the edges of the thermoplastic coating alongside the embossed metal profiles.
