Abstract

A closure is placed on a container by (a) placing a solid thermoplastic polymer mass on or above the opening of the container, (b) moving the container and an elastic body relative to each other, so that the body comes into contact with the polymer mass, and the mass is formed into a closure for the opening through elastic deformation of the body, and (c) removing the body from the formed closure. The method enables plastic closures to be efficiently formed and placed on a container in one operation. The method enables closures to be produced for containers with neck openings of varying size.
