Abstract

Materials for packaging and lining, in the form of flat articles such as tapes and sheets, based on expanded synthetic resin, comprise a macromolecular and stereoregular propylene polymer (I) and has a rather low content of heptane-soluble and low mol. wt. propylene polymer (II). The polymer (I) is obtd. by gaseous phase polymerisation and may contain catalyst residue. It has an isotaxy index of 90%, an apparent density in the unexpanded state of less than 0.90. The polymer (II) may be a propylene homopolymer, copolymer and/or grafted polymer, prepd. separately from (I) and mechanically mixed with (I) before foaming. The material has good flexibility, mechanical strength and high resistance to rupture by flexion. It can also be used for packaging foodstuff, having good resistance to water vapour diffusion and to chemicals.
