Abstract

An annular test piece, e.g. of cement, is allowed to solidify and at a chosen time is subjected to a uniform internal pressure, the deformation being measured. The test piece is pref. moulded around a ring of a low friction material e.g. PTFE, which may be left in position while the material is tested by applying a uniform pressure and measuring deformation and cracking as a function of time. The appts. is mounted on a plate of low friction material and consists of a shuttering together with a central cylindrical ring around which is placed the flexible low friction ring. Pressure may be generated mechanically or hydraulically. The test method provides advance information on the behaviour of concrete after setting.
