Abstract
Phenylchlorosilanes are prepd. by reacting chlorobenzene and silicon in the presence of a copper catalyst activated by (a) zinc or its compounds and (b) cadmium or its compounds. Methylphenylchlorosilane is prepd. by reacting chlorobenzene, methyl chloride and silicon using a similar catalyst system. Previous processes for preparing phenylchlorosilanes (U.S.S.R. Patent 184,855, Japanese Patent 4225) and methylphenylchlorosilane (Japanese Patent 5875) used copper catalysts activated only by (a). In this new process activation by (a) and (b) reduces the side reactions and increases the yield.
