Abstract

Process for preparing vaccines against shipping fever in cattle by inactivating virus- and bacteria cultures with an inactivating agent. To cultures of Myxovirus parainfluenza-3 or mixtures of this with Pasteurella multocida and/or Past. haemolytica, an aluminium ion-containing agent is added having an Al-content equivalent to 10-50 ml of a 1.3% Al2O3 dispersion in water/ 100 ml culture. The agent is added before- or after combination of the 3 organisms to form one or more mixtures. The mixtures must have an optical density of 5-10 times the optical density of tube 1 on the McFarland scale, whereby the Myxovirus parainfluenza-3 and Pasteurella organisms are inactivated before or after forming the final mixture by treatment with an inactivating agent, followed by neutralisation of any excess. A parenterally acceptable antiseptic in bacteriostatic- and fungistatic amounts is then added.
