Abstract

The device comprises an annular mould formed by two concentric ceramic coated cylinders seating onto a refrigerated base plate. Supplementary moulds of the required sample dimensions are fitted into the annulus. Molten material e.g. metal is poured into the annulus to fill the sample moulds via narrow structures in their bases. The temperature cooling profile is maintained as a constant concave contour across the sample mould ensuring a homogeneous continuous monocrystal sample.
