Abstract

The teeth are carried on transverse needle bars located in aligned peripheral slots of axially spaced discs carried on a common rotatable shaft. An end of each bar is formed with a crank which engages in a cam-track in a fixed end plate, the cam-track acting to pivot the needle bar to ensure that the needles are perpendicular to the fibrous web during its passage over the needles, and to further pivot the bars so that the needles engage cleaner bars, arranged between adjacent needle bars, when the web has been disengaged from the needles. Pref. the cleaner bars are rotated by a similar cam in the other fixed end plate.
