Abstract

In the method for production of calendered paper, paper is calendered after the drying. The paper is dried D to a moisture content which is lower than the target moisture content of the calendering process. The paper is taken via the moistening unit 1 to the calendering process, wherein at least one surface layer of the paper is moistened in the moistening unit so that the moistening water is absorbed in the paper's surface layer, while at least the middle portion remains essentially dry. From the paper whose at least one side has been moistened, gradient paper is produced with gradient calendering C by restricting the paper-processing effect of the calendering roller to the moistened surface layer so that at least the middle portion of the paper elastically returns to essentially its original condition, after which the resulting gradient paper is reeled up. <IMAGE>
