Abstract

The invention offers a method and a mechanism for creating in simple manner a treelike control structure in a system that is based on a page description language. The page description language can be, for example, HTML language, which is used to code documents in WWW. According to the invention, an information generating element generates electronic documents based on the page description language for display to the user. The information generating element includes in the electronic document a description of the control tree structure by means of the page control language's command. The information generating element saves in memory certain information describing which kind of tree structure or tree structures are displayed to each user. Each piece of information saved is provided with a tree identification which is also enclosed in the description of the control tree structure's description. When the user selects a particular node in the displayed tree structure, the information generating element will receive the tree identification connected to the user, and therefore it can produce a new tree structure according to the user's choice. <IMAGE>
