Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the production of a fibre product preimpregnated with a polymer, or prepreg. The method is characterized in that one a) covers the fibres with a powder, which contains at least one polymer and possibly a substance which has the capacity for initiating a polymerization reaction for the polymer in question, b) adds a solvent to the composition obtained in stage a), in which case the said solvent is able to dissolve the said polymer but lacks the capacity for initiating the polymerization reaction for the said polymer, and c) evaporates the solvent. Alternatively, one may first of all dissolve the polymer (which possibly contains an initiator) in a solvent, after which one brings the fibres into contact with the solution thus obtained, and evaporates the solvent. Preferably, the surface of the fibres should be treated to facilitate the adhesion of the polymer to the fibres, after which the surface-treated fibres are covered with polymer powder. The invention further relates to a new prepreg, to a method for the production of a fibre-reinforced composite using the said prepreg, to new composites and to their use.
