Abstract

The invention concerns a method for preventing the growth of weeds during cultivation of useful plants, in which method one spreads out on the ground area 2 being cultivated a paper mat 1 of thin paper, on which one sows the seeds of the cultivated plants. After this, a layer of dirt 3 is spread out onto the paper mat and the seeds, in which the weed seeds and sprouts are destroyed. According to another version of the invention, a plant 4 is planted in the dirt 3 spread out on the paper mat 1, in which the weed seeds and sprouts are destroyed. The paper used in the method is biodegradable and so thin that, when the seeds are growing, the plant's roots penetrate through the thin paper layer, while the seed- leaves 5 of the weeds cannot penetrate through the paper 1, thus preventing growth of the weeds. <IMAGE>
