Abstract

In order that short message information does not disappear during change of base station in a system where the terminals in a DECT system participate in the transmission of short messages in accordance with GSM definitions, an acknowledgement system is proposed in which short message data is acknowledged essentially by signalling in accordance with the definitions in the GSM system. A transmission unit connected to the control unit of the base station or base station group carries out the necessary conversions between the communications in GSM form and in DECT form. The concept of the invention can be implemented in three different ways by locating the protocol levels which participate in the transmission of short messages in different ways in the terminal, the base station part and the mobile telephone exchange. <IMAGE>
