Abstract

The invention relates to a transmitter 3 which can be coupled to a monitor 1 and can be used in the measurement of physiological and/or chemical parameters in an organism, and which transmitter comprises a light- transmitting member 4 which transmits light to the organism and a light-receiving member 5 which receives light which has been generated by the light-transmitting member and has penetrated the organism, a frame part 6 to which the light-transmitting and the light-receiving members have been coupled either directly or indirectly, and a cable 2 by which the light-transmitting 4 and the light-receiving member 5 are connected to the monitor 1, which processes a signal received via the light-receiving member. The diameter of the cross section of the frame part 6 of the transmitter can be altered by means of a power source 9 which has been coupled to the transmitter via a power transmission member 8. The invention further relates to a process for fastening the transmitter 3 in a cavity within the organism of the patient. <IMAGE>
