Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for stabilising the temperature in a measuring element that is used at low temperatures in order to reduce the vibrations caused by the cooling mechanism of the measuring element, when the measuring element is used to measure the intensity of radiation such as gamma radiation, X-ray radiation or infrared radiation. According to the invention a cooling part 2, which contains cooling medium is coupled to the measuring element 1, the said cooling part 2 being mechanically connected to at least one cooling element 4, 6. The cooling mechanism 4 of the measuring element 1 is disconnected during the time that the measuring element 1 is in operation, when the cooling medium present in the cooling part 2 coupled to the measuring element 1 has attained phase change temperature and essentially the entire quantity of the cooling material has undergone the phase change. <IMAGE>
