Abstract

When camphene is prepared by rearrangement of alpha -pinene, reaction time can be shortened if the rearrangement is carried out under reflux. The heat of reaction obtained is dissipated by evaporative cooling. The composition of the reaction mixture can be controlled by monitoring the temperature towards the end of the reaction.
