Abstract

A container-dispenser (10) for stick-form material, for example glue sticks, antiperspirants, solid perfumes, and the like, enabling the stick to be advanced step-wise from the container, comprises a hollow tubular body (12) with one open end (16); a central rod (20) extending internally from the base (14) of the body; a spring-loaded (26) actuator (22) to impart short axial movements to the rod on depression of the actuator, the rod and actuator returning to their original positions on release of the actuator; a follower (28) within the body having slidable co-operative engagement with the body and with the rod, permitting free axial movement of the follower only in the direction away from the base, so as to advance the stick from the body.

This invention relates to a container dispenser for materials 5 in solid or semi-solid rod or rod form, for example glue stick, chalkboard chalk, as well as various cosmetic and personal health products such as eye makeup, lipstick, antiperspirants, antiperspirants, deodorants.

This invention relates to a container dispenser for a rod-shaped material comprising a hollow tubular body open at one end and closed at the end of a base; a center bar coaxial with the hull extending internally from the base of the hull to most of the length of the hull; a drive button attached to the base end of the spring-loaded rod arranged to provide the rod with a short axial movement in the dispensing direction when the drive button is pressed, the bar and drive button returning in opposite directions to their original positions when the drive button is released; and a follower inside the body and surrounding the rod, the container dispenser being characterized by an annular support member having circumferential legs and center legs attached to the base of the follower, the legs inclined toward 25 bases, the circumferential legs being adapted to interact with the inner wall of the body; which central legs are adapted to engage cooperatively with the central rod, wherein the cooperative engagement of the legs with the body and the rod is such as to allow only axial movement of the follower within the body.

One form of container dispenser according to the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 shows a longitudinal cross-section of one form of container dispenser according to the invention.

The container dispenser 10 comprises a hollow cylindrical plastic body 12 provided with a hollow annular base plate 14 hollow at one end and a push-fit plastic cover 18 at its other open end 16 (although a thread-5 fitting or other type of cover may alternatively be used). A cylindrical plastic center bar 20 coaxial with the body and having a substantially soft surface extends through the base plate 14 internally within the body 12 to most of the body 12. The drive button 22 is mounted inside the cavity 24 of the base plate 10 and is attached to the bottom end of the rod 20. The coil spring 26 holds the button 22 a short distance from the bottom of the cavity 24 in the rest position. The annular shoulder 27 in the rod 20 abuts the upper surface of the base plate 14 in the rest position and thus limits the downward movement of the rod 20 15 and the button 22.

The annular follower 28 is positioned in its initial position on the base of the body 12 around the rod. It comprises an annular plastic piston 30 including an annular cavity 32 having an annular metal tongue 34 attached to the bottom of the piston 20, having downwardly inclined circumferential legs 36 and downwardly inclined center legs 38. The circumferential legs 36 engage with the soft inner wall 28 of the body 12 slide up (but not down) 25 inside the body 12. Accordingly, the center legs 38 engage with the center bar 20, allowing the relative axial movement of the follower 28 only in a direction away from the base, i.e., allowing the follower 28 to move only upward or the rod 20 to move only downward.

A rod-shaped material 40, for example a glue stick, fills substantially the hollow body 12 above the piston 30 and around the rod 20, being supported in an annular groove 32 in the piston 30.

With the cover 18 removed from the body 12, the button 22 is pressed into the cavity 24 of the base, against the helical spring 26, thus causing the rod 20 to move a short distance axially against the shaft 35.

During this movement, the central legs 38 of the metal support member 34 engage the rod 20 with the result that the follower 28, and thus the rod 40, advances upwardly, the circumferential legs 36 sliding against the inner wall of the body 12 5. When the button 22 is released, the spring 26 returns the button 22 and the rod 20 to their rest position, as shown. During this return movement, the rod 20 slides against the central legs 38 while the circumferential legs 36 engage the inner wall of the body 12, thereby preventing the follower 28 from returning to its former location and maintaining the pin 40 in its advanced position. Repeated pressing and releasing of the button 22 gradually feeds the rod 40 out of the open end of the container 10, the follower 28 "walking" up the rod 20, thus allowing the rod material 40 to be dispensed.

15 After use, the cover 18 can be replaced. The space 42 inside the lid 18 above the open end of the container 16 allows the lid 18 to be positioned while the upper end of the rod 40 protrudes from the container 10.

Claims (4)

A container dispensing device for a pin-shaped material comprising a hollow tubular body (12) open at one end (16) and sealed at the end of the bottom (14); a middle bar (20) which is coaxial with the body (12) and extends internally from the bottom of the body (12) a greater portion of the length of the body (12); a spring-loaded utility button (22) attached to the base end of the rod (20) and arranged to transmit a short axial movement in the output direction to the rod (20) when the utility button (22) is depressed, the rod (20) and the utility button (22) counteracting direction to its original positions upon release of the use button (22); and a follower (28) disposed within the body (12) and surrounding the bar (20), characterized in that the follower (28) has secured at its bottom side an annular support member (34) with peripheral legs (36) and center legs (38), which legs (36, 38) are angled to the bottom (14), which peripheral legs (36) are arranged to cooperate with the inner wall of the body (12) and which middle legs (38) are arranged to cooperate with the middle bar (20), wherein the cooperating engagement of the legs (36, 38) with the body (12) and the bar (20) are such that they only allow axial movement of the follower (28) within the body (12). Container dispensing device according to claim 1, characterized in that the follower (28) is made of plastic material and the support element (34) is made of metal. Container dispensing device according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the follower (28) has an annular recess (32) in the side facing away from the bottom (14) of the body, for retaining the pin-shaped material housing (40). Container dispensing device according to any one of claims 1-3, characterized in that it contains a material (40) in pin form which is an adhesive.
