Abstract

This invention concerns a radio receiver which has a mixer device 1 for mixing a received radio frequency signal RFIN at a base frequency, an amplifier device A1, A2 for setting the level of the base frequency signal and A/D devices 2, 3 for sampling the base frequency signal. In order that both high and low level signals can be A/D converted without clipping, the base frequency signal in the amplifier device is divided in the radio receiver according to the invention between two different A/D converter devices 2, 3 via two amplifier branches with different amplification, of which the branch A1 with the relatively large amplification is intended primarily for signal levels in the lower half of the dynamic range of the received signal, and of which the branch A2 with the relatively smaller amplification is intended primarily for signal levels within the upper half of the dynamic range of the signal. <IMAGE>
