Abstract
The invention concerns a method of determining the angle of inclination with respect to the perpendicular of trench walls, in particular slit trench walls, at a particular trench depth. The angle of inclination is measured using a conventional inclinometer which is installed, together with electronic circuitry designed to generate a high-frequency signal, on a shock-proof mounting on the digging implement. During digging, a high-frequency signal with a frequency proportional to the inclinometer output signal is generated and led to a coil encircling one of the connecting elements linking the digging implement with the digging machine, so that the high-frequency signal is fed without contacts into the connecting element and is collected in the same way, without contacts, by a second coil which also encircles the connecting element encircled by the first coil, and led to an electronic processing unit where the signal is converted back into a voltage representative of the angle of inclination of the digging implement and presented on an analog and/or digital display. Also fed to the electronic processing unit are signals, from at least one other sensor, which are proportional to the length to which the connecting element(s) is/are extended and hence the depth of the trench.
