Abstract

The invention relates to a process for producing a readily flowing oxide powder, such as titanium dioxide powder having a spherical particle shape, which powder can be used for plasma coating. The process according to the invention comprises the following steps: a) the oxide starting material is ground and if necessary agglomerated, b) the oxide powder is graded in a suitable particle size class, c) the graded oxide powder is fed pneumatically into the tail flame of the plasma at a particle speed which is specific for the material, d) the particles, which have melted in the flame and have become rounded as a consequence of the surface tension, are caused to fall freely down into the space below the plasma flame for the purpose of solidifying the particles in spherical shape.
