Abstract

The invention relates to an alkylation/transalkylation process intended for selective production of a monoalkylated, aromatic compound, in which the yield of the desired monoalkylated, aromatic compounds is maximized while at the same time the deactivation of the transalkylation catalyst is restricted. The process comprises an alkylation reaction stage, a first separation stage, a second separation stage and a transalkylation reaction stage in combination, where the alkylation catalyst is made up of a phosphoric acid material and the transalkylation catalyst is made up of a crystalline aluminosilicate material. A major characteristic of the process is the restriction of the deactivation of the transalkylation catalyst, which is achieved by transalkylating only dialkylated aromatic compounds. <IMAGE>
