Abstract

The invention concerns a method for cultivating plants 2 on a substrate of mineral wool, in which method water and any fertilizer contained in the water are introduced into and if appropriate removed from the mineral wool in which the plants 2 are growing, and the suction pressure in the said mineral wool is adjusted using a capillary system 7 which is in liquid communication with the mineral wool, and water and any necessary nutrients are moved actively into the said mineral wool and/or removed therefrom for re-adjusting the desired suction pressure. The invention also concerns an arrangement for cultivating plants 2 on a substrate of mineral wool, which arrangement comprises mineral wool in which the plants can grow; equipment 11 for driving water into the said mineral wool; equipment 20 for removing water and possible fertilizer contained in the water from the said mineral wool. The arrangement 1 has a capillary system 7 for liquid communication with the said mineral wool, which system is connected to equipment 12 - 16 for adjusting the suction pressure in the said mineral wool in which the plants 2 are growing, and equipment for defining the actual suction pressure in the mineral wool and, based on the defined actual suction pressure, controlling the amount of water which is introduced by the water introduction equipment 11 and/or removed with the removal equipment 20. <IMAGE>
