Abstract

The invention concerns a nuclear reactor with increased efficiency. The nuclear reactor comprises a solid partition wall construction 18 of material which reflects low-energy neutrons at the outer circumference of the reactor's core 7, two layers of which are of a material which absorbs low-energy neutrons and contains a working material, one layer of which is arranged at the lower end of the core 7 and the other at its upper end, and a series of rods 27 for transmitting the energy spectrum of the neutrons. The rods 27 are connected to mechanisms by which they can be inserted completely in the core 7 or drawn out completely. These rods 27 are of some material which absorbs low-energy neutrons and using these rods the spectrum of the neutrons can be transferred in the direction of high energy. The invention is particularly suitable for heavy-water reactors. <IMAGE>
