The present invention relates to a ballast for use in a dishwasher as defined in the preamble of claim 1.

A connecting device such as that mentioned above is known from DE-2 355 271. In this device, the line leading to the spray arm has funnel-shaped connecting parts which cooperate with correspondingly shaped projections of the supply pipe. The connecting parts are detachable from the detachable so that the container grid can be placed at two different heights. The cable has two funnel-shaped parts, one of which is connected to the open projection and the other to the closed projection.

It is an object of the present invention to simplify the connection device by removing the protrusions and funnel-shaped parts and to provide a tight connection between the line and the supply pipe, thus avoiding any liquid pressure losses that may occur in the known device described above. The object is achieved by a device characterized by what is set forth in more detail in the characterizing part of claim 1.

An embodiment of the device according to the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the interior of a washing machine in vertical section and Figure 2 shows the same machine with the grid in a second position.

The dishwasher according to Figure 1 has a recirculation line for the liquid which is pumped into a supply pipe 10 branching into two spray arms 11, 12 located in a washing space 13 with an upper and lower dish grate 14, 15 which can be pulled out of the front door of the machine. 16 equipped openings. When the upper grille is pushed against the rear wall of the machine, one of the bellows (bellows 22 in Fig. 1) surrounds the opening 20, sealing against the connecting surface 19. The second bellows 23 abuts the surface on the side of the opening. When the liquid is circulated in the machine, a pressure is created which presses the outer end of the bellows 22 harder against the connection surface and the upper grille in the direction of the door 16. Thus, the pressure of the liquid itself will provide a good seal between the bellows 22 and the connecting surface 19. Either of the beams 22, 23 can be used to make the connection, bellows 23 is used in Figure 2, and the grate 14 is in its upper operating position in the washing space. When the upper bellows (Fig. 1) is in use, the grille is in its lower operating position. These positions can be selected and the selection is made according to the size of the dishes to be washed. On both sides of the grille there are guides 26, 27, a lower guide and an upper guide in the wall. When the grille is pushed into one of the two pairs of guides, the corresponding bellows hits the opening 20, so that a connection is made to the supply line. During the washing operation, the liquid passes through the supply pipe 10 and the line 18 to the spray arm 11. The advantages of this type of ballast are mainly its insensitivity to variations in the dimensions of the engine room, door, grilles, supply pipe, etc. The elastic bellows (which may also be in the form of a sock, collar or the like) adjusts the sealing of the outer end itself to the interface and thus eliminates the risk of leakage.
