Abstract
The invention relates to a narrow gap MIG/MAG welding torch (1) comprising means (2) for feeding filler wire (15) to the welding area, means (3, 4) for feeding cooling medium to the torch and means (5a, 5b) for feeding gas to the welding area. The torch (1) is made into an open construction, the body of which comprises essentially tubular filler wire feeding means (2), tubular cooling medium feeding means (3, 4), tubular shielding gas feeding means (5a, 5b), and at least one cross member (6, 7) connecting them. The tubular shielding gas supply means (5a, 5b) are located on the front and back with respect to the filler wire (15) feeding point, as seen in the direction of travel of the torch during welding, and constitute a structure which rigidifies the torch. At the weld area end of the tubular shielding gas feeding means (5a, 5b) is provided a gas nozzle (8) surrounding their heads, respectively. In the section inside the gas nozzle of the tubular shielding gas feeding means (5a, 5b) are formed gas discharge openings (10), which open away from the filler wire supply point. The gas nozzle (8) is provided with an aperture (9) which opens towards the filler wire feeding point, through which the gas flowing from the openings (10) of the tubular shielding gas feeding means (5a, 5b), guided by the inner walls of the gas nozzle (8) towards the filler wire feeding point, is discharged as an essentially laminar flow.
