Abstract

A brush cleaning apparatus 20 for collecting oil or some other substance from the water surface or ground surface 27. The brush cleaning unit 21 of the apparatus 20 incorporates a rotary brush cylinder 22 and a scraping unit 24 for freeing the oil from the bristles 23 of the brush cylinder. The scraping unit incorporates a scraping member 25, 38 equipped with a scraping or stripping edge 36, which scraping member is in contact with the bristles of the brush cylinder and has a surface which is inclined relative to the axis of the brush cylinder and to which the scraping edge in contact with the bristles of the brush cylinder is connected. The scraping member is, for example, gutter-shaped or wedge-shaped and the scraping edge of the scraping gutter is straight or curved. <IMAGE>
