Description

DOOR STOPPER
TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to a door stopper according to claim 1.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION There are available different door stopper solutions available for keeping doors tem- porarily in an opened position. These include commonly used wedges, often made of wood or elastic material such as rubber, that are wedged below a door leaf in order to keep the door leaf in a certain opened position. There are also available door stoppers that can be attached to the upper side of a door leaf in order to lock it into a certain position. One type of doorstopper is disclosed in US5581844. Disclosed is a doorstop com- prising a block member. The doorstop has means for securing in a removable man- ner said block member against a leaf of hinge means of a door, said securing means comprising a magnetic plate. The doorstop can thus be magnetically clamped onto a door jamb leaf of a hinge on a door, to obstruct the door from closing totally into the doorjamb. Another doorstopper is disclosed in US2018128025 A1. The doorstop disclosed comprises a block of material and at least one magnet mounted to the block of ma- terial. The block of material is capable of being positioned between the door edge o 20 and the doorframe, the magnet interacting with either the door or the door frame.
QA
O N A disadvantage of the mentioned door stoppers is that they are situated either below 7 the door leaf or above the door leaf. Therefore a person wanting to place the door - stopper in order to keep the door open either needs to bend down to place the door E stopper or to reach out high to the top of the door in order to place it.
O < 3 25 It is objective of the invention to provide an alternative door stopper that provides > improved ergonomics for the person wanting to use it.
SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSED SOLUTION
This objective is achieved with a door stopper according to claim 1. According to the invention the door stopper comprises a wedge element, the wedge element having a first surface and a second surface arranged in parallel with the first surface, the surfaces facing opposite directions, wherein each of the first sur- face and the second surface have a height and a width. The second surface is con- figured to be engaged with the frame of a door or a hinge of a door, and at least one side surface connects the first and the second surface. The at least one side surface is configured to engage at least with a door leaf, the distance between the first and the second surface is smaller than the smallest dimension of the heights and widths of the first and the second surface. The second surface is equipped with a magnet such that the door stopper is attachable to a metal door frame or to a metal hinge of a door. The shape of the first and second surface is round. A gripping element has been attached to the first surface of the wedge element which gripping element pro- trudes outwardly from the first surface.
According to the invention the distance between the first and the second surface is smaller than the smallest dimension of the heights and the widths of the first and the second surface. In case the first and the second surface have a circular shape, the heights of the surfaces correspond to the diameters, as the widths equally corre- spond to the diameters. In case of circular first and second surfaces, the distance between the first and the second surface is thus smaller than the diameters of said S surfaces. 2 Some kind of door frames have on their inner sides additional vertical inwardly pro- O truding portions. When used with this kind of door frames, a door stopper according z 25 to the invention often abuts with one side surface against this protruding portion a o while it abuts against the door leaf on the opposite side.
D 0 A door stopper according to the invention is configured such that it can be placed S between a door frame or a door leaf at a position convenient for the person wanting to place the door stopper. As the second surface of the door stopper is eguipped with a magnet, the door stopper can be removably attached to a metal part of the door frame or for example a hinge. In case of a metal door, the door stopper can be attached to the door frame at any height in convenient reach for a person. In case of a non-metal door, the door stopper according to the invention can be attached to a metal hinge, which are usually situated in the middle of the door, approximately 20-30 cm below the upper edge of the door and approximately 20-30 cm upwards from the bottom edge of the door. A door stopper according to the invention can thus be placed more ergonomically and conveniently compared to wedges of the state of the art. According to one embodiment the magnet is embedded in the second surface or glued to the second surface. The embedded magnet can be attached to the second surface for example with a common glue or can be attached to the wedge element during molding of the wedge element. The strength and the dimensions of the mag- net have been selected such that the wedge element attaches to a metal door frame or hinge but the wedge element is removable from the door frame or the hinge with little force. According to another embodiment the first and the second surface of the wedge element are of equal size and shape. The size of the surfaces of the wedge shaped element is chosen according to the space present between an opened door leaf and a vertical protruding portion on one of the vertical inner sides of a door frame, such that the door stopper can be wedged into that space such that the second surface of the wedge shaped element of the S door stopper abuts with part of the door frame or a hinge of the door, while at least i one side surface of the wedge shaped element abuts against the door leaf. 3 O A rounded shaped wedge element is more easy to install in the space between the z 25 opened door leaf and the door frame. Also, when the wedge element has a shape a o with no edges, damage to the door leaf or door frame is prevented.
S 3 The diameter of the disk-shaped wedge element is preferably 50-120 mm.
O - According to one embodiment the diameter of the first and the second surface of the wedge element is 60-110 mm.
According to another embodiment the wedge element is made of essentially elastic material. The disk-shaped wedge element is preferably made of wood, laminated wood, composite, plastic or rubber. An elastic material of the wedge element is ad- vantageous for a door stopper, as a door stopper of elastic material can more easily be wedged between a door frame and a door leaf. Elastic material also prevents damaging of material or paint of the door frame and the door leaf. By using the gripping element, a person can grip the door stopper and place it to the wedging position between a door frame and a door leaf. According to one embodiment a connection line such as a chain, a wire or a rope is attached to the wedge element connecting the door stopper to an attachment piece attached to a wall or door frame. This connection line can be attached to the wedge for example by means of a screw connection. The attachment piece is preferably a screw or bolt attached to the door frame or to a wall in vicinity of the door frame. The length of the connection line is slightly larger than the distance between the attachment place and an intended wedging place for the door stopper such that the door stopper is convenient to in- stall. The length of the connection line is however shorter than the distance from the attachment place to the ground, in order to prevent dropping of the wedge element to the ground. Additionally, a holder for the wedge element can be fixed for example to the wall 5 next to the attachment place. When not in use for wedging the door, the door stopper O can be stored in this holder. 3

N - 9 door leaf a a S 20 Figure 1 shows a three-dimensional side view of a door stopper 1 according to an 3 embodiment of the invention. The door stopper is dimensioned to fit between an > opened door leaf and a frame of a door. The door stopper 1 has a wedge element 2 having a first surface 2.1 and a second surface 2.2. A gripping element 3 has been attached to the first surface 2.1.
This gripping element 3 can for example be a handle, a knob, a pin or a screw.
It can be attached to the wedge element 2 by means of a screw connection, with glue or it can be molded into the wedge element 2 during its production process.
The gripping element 3 can itself have a threaded end, which has been screwed into a hole in the wedge element.
Another possibility is that the wedge element 2 has a hole through which the gripping element 3 has been placed.
In this case, the grip- ping element 3 can consist of a screw that is placed through the hole and then at its end on the first surface 2.1 a washer and a nut or a knob have been connected to the screw.
The gripping element 3 is preferably situated in the center of the wedge element 2. Figure 2 shows a top view of the door stopper 1 according to the invention.
In this view, the top surface 2.1 and the gripping element 3 can be seen.
In Figure 3 there can be seen a bottom view of a door stopper 1 according to the invention.
There door stopper 1 has a wedge element 2 with a second side 2.2. A magnet 4 has been attached to this second side 2.2 of the wedge element 2. In the depicted case the magnet 4 has been attached to the wedge element 2 by a material bond, such as with glue or by molding it into the wedge element 2 during the pro- duction process of the wedge element 2. The magnet 4 can however also be at- tached to the wedge element 2 in other known ways.
The magnet 4 can for example have a hole in its middle and it can be attached to the wedge element 2 with a screw, for example such that a screw is set through first the magnet 4, then a hole in the wedge element 2. The end of the screw can then be tightened with a washer and a S nut. 3 Figure 4 depicts a door stopper 1 according to the invention that is equipped with a N 25 connection line 6 and an attachment piece 5. The connection line 6 can be a rope, z wire, chain or other kind of line that is thick and durable enough to carry the weight S of the wedge element.
The connection line 6 is also preferably flexible such that it 3 enables movement of the wedge element 2 to a wedging position between a door > frame 7 and a door leaf 9. The connection line 6 is at its one end connected to the wedge element 2, for example to the gripping element 3 of the wedge element 2. In case the gripping element 3 comprises a screw, the connection line 6 can for example with one of its elements be connected to the screw and the attachment of the connection line 6 to the gripping element can be tightened with a nut. The grip- ping element 3 can also be fixedly attached to the wedge element 2 or the gripping element 3 for example by welding.
The attachment piece 5 depicted is in this case a screw which can be attached to a wall next to the door leaf 9 or to the door frame 7. The attachment piece 5 can however also be of any other kind.
Figure 5 shows an assembly view showing a door stopper 1 according to the inven- tion installed to a door. It shows an opened door having a door leaf 9, a frame 7 and hinges 8. In the figure the door stopper 1 has been wedged between the opened door leaf 9 and the door frame 7. In the figure, the door stopper 1 has been attached to a metal hinge, such that the door stopper's magnet 4 attaches to the hinge 8. However, in case of a metal door frame, the door stopper 1 can also be attached to the door frame.
The above-described examples are intended to explain the general idea of the dis- closed solution. Therefore, such examples are not to be taken as exhausting the ways in which the general idea of the disclosed solution may be implemented.
