Description
DRILLING BIT
Field of the invention
The invention relates to a drilling bit as defined in the preamble of independent claim 1.
The invention relates generally to superimposing drilling bits having pivoting bits symmetrically provided at the drilling bit, wherein each pivoting bit having a head member provided with cutting bits, wherein each pivoting bit is pivotable between an inwardly pivoted state, where the pivoting bit occupy a position inside a drilling bit diameter, and an outwardly pivoted state, where the pivoting bit occupy a position at least partly outside the drilling bit diameter.
Publication EP 0 563 561 B1 presents a superimposing drilling bit according to the prior art. This superimposing drilling bit comprises a head provided with cutting bits, a main shaft for attaching the drilling bit to a drilling apparatus or to a drilling means of a drilling apparatus, blind holes symmetrically disposed in the periphery of the drilling bit, recesses symmetrically disposed in the periphery of the drilling bit, a receiving bore in each recess, pivoting bits each having a shaft that is disposed in a receiving bore of a recess of the recesses, wherein each recess is partly penetrated by a blind hole in the periphery of the drilling bit, wherein each blind hole having an open end at the periphery of the drilling bit, wherein each shaft of a pivoting bit having a circumferential surface, wherein each pivoting bit having a head member provided with cutting bits, wherein each pivoting bit is pivotable between an inwardly pivoted state ,where the pivoting bit occupy a position inside a drilling bit diameter, and an outwardly pivoted state, where the pivoting bit occupy a position at least partly outside the drilling bit diameter, wherein each shaft of each pivoting bit comprises a notch in the circumferential surface of the shaft, and wherein a pin is arranged in each blind hole in the drilling bit so that each pin penetrating a notch in the circumferential surface of a shaft of a pivoting bit for locking the pivoting bit in the recess. A problem with such superimposing drilling bit is the locking of the pins in the blind holes due to vibrations when the drilling bit is used for its purpose i.e. for drilling. The pin should stay locked in the blind holes in such manner that it is possible, if needed, to open the locking for example for interchanging a pivoting bit locked in a recess by means of the locking pin.
Objective of the invention
The object of the invention is to provide a drilling bit that solves the above identified problem.
Short description of the invention
The drilling bit of the invention is characterized by the definitions of independent claim 1.
Preferred embodiments of the drilling bit are defined in the dependent claims.
In the drilling bit at least one blind hole of the blind holes is provided with a locking recess in the region of the open end of said at least one blind hole. A locking member is disposed in said at least one blind hole provided with a locking recess in the region of the open end of said at least one blind hole so that the locking member is disposed between the open end of said at least one blind hole and the pin disposed in said at least one blind hole for keeping the pin in said at least one blind hole. The locking member is configured for co-operation with the locking recess in the region of the open end of said at least one blind hole for locking the locking member in place in said at least one blind hole.

Detailed description of the invention
The figures show two different embodiments of the drilling bit.
The drilling bit comprises a head 1 provided with cutting bits 2.
The drilling bit comprises a main shaft 3 for attaching the drilling bit to a drilling apparatus (not shown in the drawings) or to a drilling means (not shown in the drawings) of a drilling apparatus.
The drilling bit comprises blind holes 4 symmetrically disposed in the periphery of the drilling bit.
The drilling bit comprises recesses 5 symmetrically disposed in the periphery of the drilling bit.
The drilling bit comprises a receiving bore 6 in each recess. Each receiving bore 6 may extend in a direction parallel with a rotation axis of the drilling bit.
The drilling bit comprises pivoting bits 7 each having a shaft 8 that is disposed in a receiving bore 6 of a recess 5 of the recesses 5.
Each receiving bore 6 is partly penetrated by a blind hole 4 in the periphery of the drilling bit. Each blind hole 4 may extend in a direction perpendicular to a rotation axis of the drilling bit.
Each blind hole 4 has an open end 9 at the periphery of the drilling bit.
Each shaft 8 of a pivoting bit 7 has a circumferential surface 10.
Each pivoting bit 7 has a head member 11 provided with cutting bits 2.
Each pivoting bit 7 is pivotable between an inwardly pivoted state, where the pivoting bit 7 occupy a position inside a drilling bit diameter, and an outwardly pivoted state, where the pivoting bit 7 occupy a position at least partly outside the drilling bit diameter.
Each shaft 8 of each pivoting bit 7 comprises a notch 12 in the circumferential surface 10 of the shaft 8. The notch 12 may be in the form of a circumferential notch 12 in the circumferential surface 10 of the shaft 8. A locking pin 13 is arranged in each blind hole 4 in the drilling bit so that each locking pin 13 penetrating a receiving bore 6 in the circumferential surface 10 of a shaft 8 of a pivoting bit 7 for locking the pivoting bit 7 in the receiving bore 6.
At least one blind hole 4 of the blind holes 4 is provided with a locking recess 14 in the region of the open end 9 of said at least one blind hole 4. A locking member 24 is disposed in said at least one blind hole 4 provided with a locking recess 14 in the region of the open end 9 of said at least one blind hole 4 so that the locking member 24 is disposed between the open end 9 of said at least one blind hole 4 and the locking pin 13 disposed in said at least one blind hole 4 for keeping the locking pin 13 in said at least one blind hole 4. The locking member 24 is configured for co-operation with the locking recess 14 in the region of the open end 9 of said at least one blind hole 4 for locking the locking member 24 in place in said at least one blind hole 4.
Figures 4 and 5 shows detail views of a first embodiment of the drilling bit. In this first embodiment the open end 9 of the blind hole 4 have an inserting section 15 having an oblong cross-shape having a large width and a narrow width.
In this this first embodiment of the drilling bit the locking member 24 comprises an oblong section having an oblong cross-shape having a large diameter 16 and a narrow diameter 17.
In this first embodiment of the drilling bit, the locking member 24 is insertable into locking recess 14 of the blind hole 4 through the open end 9 of the blind hole 4 and subsequently turnable in the locking recess 14 in the region of the open end 9 of the blind hole 4 into a locking position where the larger diameter of the oblong section of the locking member 24 is behind the narrow width of the open end 9 of the blind hole 4 for locking the locking member 24 in said least one blind hole 4.
In this first embodiment of the drilling bit, the locking recess 14 may be an annular groove. In this first embodiment of the drilling bit the locking recess 14 may be in the form of two groove sections provided diametrically in the narrow width of the inserting section 15 of the blind hole 4.
In this this first embodiment of the drilling bit, the inserting section 15 of the blind hole 4 may, as shown in figure 4, be the outermost portion of the blind hole 4. In this first embodiment of the drilling bit the inserting section 15 may extend between the periphery of the drilling bit and the groove in the region of the open end 9 of the blind hole 4.
In this this first embodiment of the drilling bit, when the locking member 24 is in the locking position, at least one flushing channel leading from the outside of the drilling bit into the blind hole 4 and past the locking member 24 in the blind hole 4 may be formed between the locking member 24 and the surrounding walls of the blind hole 4. Such flushing channel may be used for blowing pressurized air into the blind hole 4 for cleaning the blind hole 4 for example in connection with removing of the locking member 24 and the locking pin 13 from the blind hole 4.
In this this first embodiment of the drilling bit, a spring means 18 may, as show in figure 4, be disposed between the locking member 24 and the locking pin 13 in said least one blind hole 4. If the drilling bit is provided with such spring means 18, the locking member 24 may comprise a second blind hole 19 for at least partly receiving the spring member and for holding the spring member in place in the blind hole with respect to the locking member 24. If the drilling bit is provided with such spring means 18, a proximal end of the locking pin 13, which proximal end is closer to the open end 9 of the blind hole 4 than a distal end of the locking pin 13 that is located closer to a bottom of the blind hole 4, may be provided with a third blind hole 20 for at least partly receiving the spring means 18 and for holding the spring means 18 in position with respect to the locking pin 13. If the drilling bit is provided with such spring means 18, the spring means 18 may be compressed between the locking member 24 and the locking pin 13 said least one blind hole 4 when the locking member 24 is in said locking position.
Figures 5 and 6 shows detail views of a second embodiment of the drilling bit. In this second embodiment of the drilling bit the locking member 24 comprises a plastically deformable cup part 21. The plastically deformable cup part 21 is plastically deformed so that parts of the plastically deformable cup part 21 are disposed in the locking recess 14 in the region of the open end 9 of the blind hole 4 for locking the locking member 24 in said least one blind hole 4. The plastically deformable cup part 21 may for example be deformed by hammering. The plastically deformable cup part 21 is preferably, but not necessarily, made at least partly of metal.
The plastically deformable cup part 21 has preferably, but not necessarily, an outer periphery that is preferably, but not necessarily, as shown in figure 7, circular before plastically deforming the plastically deformable cup part 21 so that parts of the plastically deformable cup part 21 are disposed in the locking recess 14 in the region of the open end 9 of the blind hole 4 for locking the locking member 24 in said least one blind hole 4.
In this second embodiment of the drilling bit, the locking member 24 may comprise an elongate member 22 extending from the plastically deformable cup part 21 towards the locking pin 13.
In this second embodiment of the drilling bit, a flexible damping member 25 made for example at least partly of rubber may be disposed between the locking member 24 and the locking pin 13 in said least one blind hole 4. If the drilling bit is provided with such flexible damping member 25, the locking member 24 may comprise a second blind hole 19 for at least partly receiving the flexible damping member 25 and for holding the flexible damping member 25 in place in the blind hole with respect to the locking member 24. If the drilling bit is provided with such flexible damping member 25, the end of the locking pin 13, which end is closer to the open end 9 of the blind hole 4, may be provided with a third blind hole 20 for at least partly receiving the flexible damping member 25 and for holding the flexible damping member 25 in position with respect to the locking pin 13.
In this second embodiment of the drilling bit, the plastically deformable cup part 21 may comprise at least one cut-out 23 extending inwards from an outer periphery of the plastically deformable cup part 21 for facilitating deformation of the plastically deformable cup part 21. The cut-out 23 may also be used for preventing the locking member 24 from rotating in the blind hole 4 by accommodating a split pin 28 both in the cut-put 23 and in locking formations (not shown in the figures) the locking recess 14 in the region of the open end 9 of said blind hole 4.
In this second embodiment of the drilling bit, the locking member 24 may, as shown in figures 5 and 6, be provided with a first central opening 26 for a gripping means (not shown in the figures) for facilitating removing the locking member 24 from the blind hole 4.
In this second embodiment of the drilling bit, the locking pin 13 may, as shown in figures 5 and 6, be provided with a second central blind opening 27 for a gripping means for facilitating removing the locking pin 13 from the blind hole 4.
It is apparent to a person skilled in the art that as technology advances, the basic idea of the invention can be implemented in various ways. The invention and its embodiments are therefore not restricted to the above examples, but they may vary within the scope of the claims.
