Method comprises (a) coating a substrate with one or more application of a pigmented base coating compsn. comprising an addition interpolymer having alkoxy and/or acyloxy silane gps., derived from the reaction of a monomer mixt. which comprises (1) 5-95 wt. % of at least one ethylenically unsatd. silicon-free monomer, and (11) 5-50 wt. % of a copolymerisable alkoxy and/or acyloxy silane monomer(s) to form a base coat, and before drying or curing of (a) (b) coating (a) with one or more applications of a topcoating compsn. comprising a film forming resin to form a clear topcoat. - Also claimed are the prods. produced by these methods.
