Abstract
A dextran hexonic acid deriv. (I) having one or more terminal D-gluconic acid residues is obtd. by the oxidation of a dextran polymer having an ave. mol.wt. of 2000-6000 with sodium chlorite at pH 2.5-4.5 and 20-30 deg.C. Also claimed is a dextran hexonic acid deriv. having at least one terminal unit of the formula structure of D-gluconic acid.
