Abstract

In the structuring of lightweight extruded structural profiles which include a resin-bonded core made from a highly compressed particulate filling agent, the loose filling agent is charged into an extrusion die 10 by means of the application of a vacuum 27. The filling agent is charged inside a sheath of glass-fibre threads 12 which is used to move the charged filling agent through the die. While the sheath and the charged filling agent progress through the die, a liquid binding resin 44, 31, 33 is introduced so that it can penetrate the charged filling agent and the sheath in order to bind them together. The filling agent includes a sedimentary mineral (inorganic) material in the form of coarse particles and a relatively fine material which is capable of flowing freely (for example, hollow silicate microspheres) as additional filling agent, the additional filling agent being introduced so that it occupies the gaps in the porous filling agent charged previously.
