Abstract

The apparatus operates to cut- off the supply of fuel (either liquid or gaseous) to the heater if the latter should fall over or be otherwise moved into an unsafe position. The apparatus comprises in combination a thermo-couple, an electro-magnetically operated valve 10 electrically connected to the thermo-couple and a position- sensitive switch 14 which is also electrically connected (either in series or in parallel) to said electro- magnetically operated valve. The valve is only maintained in an open condition in use to permit passage of fuel to the burner or burners of the apparatus if the aforesaid thermo-couple is heated by the burner or burners and the position- sensitive switch is also electrically connected to the valve in a manner which will enable the valve to assume the open position if the apparatus remains in an upright or normal operative position. The switch 14 incorporates a cavity 17 partially filled with mercury and into which two terminals 18,19 project.
