Abstract

A hydrolysis column, for use in an ammonium diuranate conversion line process, having a pipe column (52) with a top water inlet, a cross-connection (20) inserted in the pipe column intermediate its length, and a gas nozzle (34) attached to the cross-connection (20). The gas nozzle (34) has a heat-insulative housing (36) Containing an inclined passageway (42) with its upper terminus (44) connected to a uranium hexafluoride gas supply. The passageway's lower terminus (50) projects into the pipe column's (52) interior so that the gas may be mixed directly with the water and so that the water will flow down over generally all of the lower terminus (50). Preferably, the gas nozzle (34) has two such passageways.
