Abstract

The arrangement is intended for removing at least one layer of reinforcing elements such as steel wires arranged between the tread and the casing of a pneumatic vehicle tyre after the tread itself has first been removed down to that layer by grinding. To this end, each steel wire of that layer is cut at one or more points after which these wires are removed by a further grinding operation. Each wire may be cut half-way its length or at a number of points. The tread grinding unit used may be provided with a freely rotatable roller pressurised to engage the periphery of the rotating tyre and carrying at least one driven circular cutting blade. - Used in removing tread and layer of steel reinforcing wires of vehicle tyre prior to re-treading. The arrangement enables removal of the wires without removing underlying rubber or damaging wires of an underlying layer and without entanglement of the wires, thus ultimately producing an even surface for optimum bonding of a new wire-reinforced layer during re-treading. The lements may be cut by a pressure roller with a knife mounted thereon. - US4825926 A Machine for removing layer(s) of reinforcing elements, e.g. steel cords, from a breaker or belt between the tread area and carcass of a rubber tyre removes the tread area down to the layer of cords by rasping. Then each cord is cut in at least one place and removed by further rasping. - The machine comprises two clamping plates for gripping the tyre, a tyre pressuriser, a tyre rotator and stripping rasps for removing the tread. It also has a pressure roller to be applied to the tyre. Circular knives are mounted on this to cut through the reinforcing layer(s). The pressure roller is mounted on a ball bearing to allow it to rotate freely with respect to the knives. (4pp)
