Abstract

In the pretreatment of a fresh iridium-containing reforming catalyst, the catalyst is initially treated at an elevated temperature with oxygen and a hydrogen halide, preferably dry hydrogen chloride. Thereafter the catalyst is treated with a reducing agent at an elevated temperature.
