Abstract

A laminate web (I) suitable for use in producing containers for degenerative prods., comprises Al foil, a film of ethylene co-polymer (II) contg. pendant carboxylic acid or ester gps., and at least a monomolecular layer (III) of a polyacrylic acid chromium complex primer between them. - Prodn. of (I) comprises depositing (III) upon at least one surface of an Al foil substrate as an aq. alcoholic soln.; heating the substrate to dry the primer; extrusion coating a film of (II) upon at least one of the primed foil surfaces; and cooling to form (I), which can be formed into a container configuration with (II) disposed on its inside surface. - Containers made of (I) are suitable for packaging of prods., which tend to degrade or attach the materials of construction, causing failure of the container. The (I) has high bond strength, retains good adhesion over extended periods of time, and does not show environmental stress cracking in the presence of prods. e.g. fluoride toothpaste.
