Abstract

A battery separator material particularly adaptable for use in maintenance free batteries. The battery separator material includes diatomaceous earth filler, acrylate copolymer binder and a combination of fibres comprising polyolefin, polyester and glass fibres, and has a total pore volume greater than 65%, an average pore size of 14 microns or less and an ohmic resistance of 0.015 ohms per in<2> or less.
