Abstract
A brake device for independently driven shafts in which the service brake and the parking brake are combined in a single brake device and in which each system acts on the same brake discs with separate brake contact pressure discs (brake pads). The parking brake system is mechanical and is operated by means of brake levers, which turn cams in order to convert a rotary movement into a longitudinal movement and to press the contact pressure brake discs or brake pads against both sides of the brake discs. The service brake system is hydraulic and has pistons with brake pads on each side of the discs. Fluid passages connect the pistons for simultaneous actuation. The pistons are arranged so that they are floating and self-adjusting. The entire brake device can be preassembled and fitted to the vehicle as a single unit.
