CONSISTE EN OBTENER UN POLISACARIDO CAPSULAR POR CULTIVO DE UNA CEPA DE NEUMOCOCO EN UN MEDIO ADECUADO, NEUTRALIZAR POR ADICION DE HIDROXIDO SODICO, PROVOCAR LA LISIS CELULAR CONTRA UN VOLUMEN MINIMO DE AGUA DIEZ VECES EL VOLUMEN DEL CULTIVO. EL MATERIAL NO DIALIZADO SE RECUPERA POR LIOFILIZACON Y SE REDISULVE EN ACETATO SODICO AL 5 POR 100; SE SEPARA, POR CENTRIFUGACION, EL MATERIAL INSOLUBLE, SE RECOGE EL SOBRENADANTE, SE AÑADE LA MITAD DE SU VOLUMEN DE ALCOHOL ABSOLUTO Y SE MEZCLA. ESTA VACUNA TIENE APLICACIONES FARMACOLOGICAS EN LA TERAPIA PREVENTIVA DE ENFERMEDADES INFECCIOSAS ORIGINADAS POR "STREPTOCOCCUS PNEUMONIAE".
